Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026
Later ("we", "our", or "the app") is an iOS read-it-later application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Later handles, how it is stored, and what choices you have.
1. Data Collection
Later does not collect any personal data. We do not operate servers, maintain databases, or run analytics services. The app does not require account creation, email addresses, or any form of registration.
2. Data Storage
All data you create in Later — including saved links, article content, tags, reading progress, and AI-generated summaries — is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
3. iCloud Sync
If you enable iCloud sync, your data is synchronized across your Apple devices through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. This data is:
- Encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- Protected by Apple's Advanced Data Protection (if enabled)
- Not accessible to us — we have no CloudKit dashboard, no server keys, no access
You can disable iCloud sync at any time in the app's settings. Your data will remain on the device where it was created.
4. AI Processing
Later offers AI features including smart summaries, auto-tagging, and agentic search. These features work in two modes:
- Apple Intelligence (on-device): All processing happens locally on your device using Apple's built-in models. No data is sent externally.
- Third-party LLM (optional): If you choose to configure a third-party AI service (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic), article content may be sent to that provider's API for processing. This is entirely opt-in — you provide your own API key, and the data is sent directly from your device to the provider. We never see or relay this data. Please review the privacy policy of your chosen AI provider.
5. Network Access
Later accesses the network only for:
- Fetching web page content and metadata when you save a link
- iCloud sync (if enabled)
- Third-party LLM API calls (if configured by you)
We do not embed any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking pixels. There are no calls to our own servers because we do not operate any.
6. Third-Party Services
Later does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The only third-party interactions occur when you explicitly configure a third-party LLM provider, as described in Section 4.
7. Subscription & Purchase Data
Later Pro subscriptions and purchases are processed entirely by Apple's App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID credentials.
The app stores a minimal trial start timestamp locally on your device (in the iOS Keychain) to manage the 7-day free trial period. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not linked to your identity
- Is automatically removed when you delete the app's Keychain data
8. Children's Privacy
Later does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from any user.
9. Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:
- Delete individual links, tags, or articles within the app
- Delete all app data by uninstalling Later from your device
- Manage iCloud data through your device's Settings → iCloud → Manage Storage
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
